Overview

Jalapeño Deli, nestled at 1629 Lexington Ave in New York, stands out as a genuine beacon of Mexican cuisine in a city bursting with diverse flavors. This eatery honors tradition with dishes that deliver authenticity and heart, far beyond the typical Tex-Mex fare. The menu’s highlight, the Cemita, is a testament to the deli’s commitment to Mexican roots—featuring a rich, layered sandwich that beautifully balances textures and bold flavors.

Beyond the Cemita, the selection is extensive yet focused, offering classic staples such as carne enchiladas, milanesa, and the ever-popular tortas. The breaded chicken cutlet options provide a satisfying crunch, while ingredients like Oaxaca cheese, requesón, and queso de puerco add regional depth and richness. For those seeking breakfast, the simple yet satisfying “2 Eggs With Home Fries” paired with sausage, ham, or bacon speaks to the approachable side of the menu.

The atmosphere at Jalapeño Deli complements its culinary offerings perfectly. The space feels inviting and warm, evoking the comfortable familiarity of a neighborhood market rather than a formal restaurant. This relaxed environment is ideal for both quick lunches and leisurely dinners, making it accessible to a wide range of guests—from local residents to curious visitors eager for a true taste of Mexico.

Customer reviews resonate with praise for the generous portions and authentic flavors. Kenneth Karan notes that the burritos offer “an entire buffet in a tortilla,” highlighting both abundance and value. Karina Ortega’s enthusiasm for the tortas captures the essence of the experience—immersive and transportive, akin to eating at a bustling Mexican mercado.

Run by the same passionate hands since the 1990s, Jalapeño Deli thrives on preserving quality and tradition in every dish served. Its blend of vibrant flavors, welcoming atmosphere, and attentive service positions it as a must-visit for anyone looking to explore Mexican cuisine rooted deeply in its culture without leaving New York.

A must food stop for any foodie exploring New York! A genuine « Mom & Pop » from Mexico. We had an amazing Burrito and a unique specialty Cemitas sandwich (Chorizo con Huevos) plus delicious jalapeño sauce on the side... just see the pics!

The best tortas I've had, maybe ever! I especially recommend the torta al pastor. My boyfriend is from California and this is one of our go-tos whenever he visits. I always want to try something new but the tortas are honestly just perfection. They come with avocado, oaxaca cheese, and everything else you can possibly want.

My boyfriend whom Is from Mexico suggested I tried to get a taste of what real Mexican food is like . After trying the Sope with carne enchilada I can say he was right! The food is Delicious, authentic, fresh homemade style. (My favorite torta to try is Milanesa de Rez with avocado) On a side note certain plates take long to prepare because they are made from scratch (not a bad thing)I suggest to call and time ahead for efficiency. I recommend 100%.
